Cole Porter, an American composer and songwriter, is widely considered as one of the greatest song writers among these selections. These listed selections are usually entitled "The Great American Song Book" or "The American Song Bag" etc. Of course the collections by various editors differed slightly, but the general lists were pretty much the same.
